Between 2010 and 2014, media140 created a series of events in Barcelona.
Big Data Week
Big Data Week (#bdw13 & #bdw14) connected more than 25 cities around the world with events relating to big data. In Barcelona it brought together scientists, technologists, academics, journalists and businesspeople … It was promoted by the group Catalunya Dades (Data Catalonia), a network with representatives from branches of the public administration that had begun to allow public access to data, private companies that reuse it, representatives of academia, science and communication researchers, and members of the public.

In 2011, media140 Barcelona held a two day conference exploring the impact of emerging digital and social technologies on journalism, media communications and publishing. Practitioners, entrepreneurs and thinkers from around the world, working in the field of journalism, media and communications, discussed, reflected and explored, in workshops, roundtables and individual sessions, how to harness social technologies to improve the journalism we were doing then. Two days of sessions looking at measuring audience participation, listening to community conversations; how to market and syndicate digital content; best practice in ‘mobile’ journalism, collaborative editing video, using opendata, crowd sourcing and much more.
