About Me

I’ve always liked the Australian song From little things big things grow, for it is true that only knowing where we stand, knowing the land that surrounds us, we might be able to take care of it and if we change it, do it for the better. I first tried to change the big things working as a journalist, but I ended up having a few contradictions and a lot of doubts. I now explore the use of digital and mobile technologies to foster transformation, from the little things to the big ones, in the intersection of education, local journalism, local government and civic engagement.

In the last few years, in Barcelona, I’ve co-organised several events on journalism, digital technologies and big data (media140 & bdw), I’ve taught Communications and co-created CitizenSqKm, a pilot to experience how geolocation technologies and community networks can increase civic engagement and benefit people, from the local to the global.

Before that, I studied Law, International Relations and Communications and I lived in the Netherlands, France, the Philippines and Australia. Between 1999 and 2011 I was a foreign correspondent in Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific, and worked as a journalist until digital and social technologies shook my world. I then searched for new paths, studied Multi-Platform Content and Transmedia, became a partner at media140 and returned to the gorgeous city of Barcelona.

This website is unashamedly about me; in mixed English, Spanish and Catalan to show what I’ve been doing and what I do. I might also write about what I -sometimes- think about.
